Google Ads or Meta Ads: when to use which
Google Ads captures demand that already exists. People are searching for a solution, and your ad appears when they do. That makes it the best fit for products and services people actively look for.
Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) creates demand by reaching people based on interests and behaviour, before they have searched for anything. It works well for building awareness, for visual products and for introducing something new to the right audience.
Which one should carry the budget depends on the business model and the sales cycle. B2B companies with long sales cycles often get most from Google Search combined with LinkedIn. Online stores tend to need Shopping campaigns plus Meta’s product ads, and local businesses get furthest with search ads limited to the area they serve.
Most advertisers end up using both: Meta builds interest, and Google catches the demand that follows. What matters is tracking the whole customer journey and giving budget to the channel with the lowest cost per qualified result, which is rarely the one with the cheapest clicks.
