SEO and SEM: what is the difference?
SEO (search engine optimisation) is the work of earning organic visibility through technical quality, relevant content and links from other sites. Results build over time, and the traffic does not carry a cost per click.
SEM (search engine marketing) is the wider term. It also covers paid search such as Google Ads, which gives visibility from the first day but stops the moment the budget does. We run that side as a separate PPC service.
Most businesses need both. SEO builds the base for long-term growth, and paid search covers periods of heavy competition and the launch of new products or services. Where you start depends on the business: for local businesses and law firms it is usually the map results and pages for each service or practice area, and for online stores it is the category pages.
